The main difference
Consider YouVersion if you want Scripture, for free, in the translation you already use. Life.Church’s Bible App publishes 3,500+ versions in 2,300+ languages, thousands of reading plans, and a help-centre line we will not soften: “We give you everything you need to use YouVersion for free, with no limits and no ads.” There is no paid tier to upsell you. The catch is a sign-up if you want the full library — the account itself is free.
Choose Seraph if you want something quieter: one flame kept daily, the whole King James Bible readable free, guided prayer paced by breath — and a hard privacy line: no account to create, no ads, and a public vow of no prayer analytics. Your prayer life stays on your device. Seraph+ is $6.99/mo or $59.99/yr on our US App Store listing and on our pricing page. The daily office is free. Sacred Seasons, including Advent, are not.

YouVersion’s giving page also prints “more than 2,100 languages and 3,300 versions.” That is a different pair from the US listing’s 3,500+ / 2,300+. We quote the listing for those counts and the giving page only for the donation model. No worldwide cheapest-price claim is made here — they do not sell a plan.
What YouVersion does better
Breadth, and the price of zero. 3,500+ versions against our single King James is not a close contest, and there is no version of it where we win. Their plans library dwarfs ours — “Thousands of Reading Plans in 100+ languages.” Searching bible.com for “advent” on September 9, 2026 still returns a shelf of live Advent plans in 4-day, 24-day, and 25-day lengths, including Life.Church’s own 25-day countdown. Those plans cost nothing. Seraph’s Candle-Lighting Calendar does not: it is Seraph+.
They also ship audio Bibles (select versions), friends and community around the text, verse images, and web reading at bible.com — named on their account article beside the app. Their help centre’s “no limits and no ads” is a product promise we cannot match on the paid half of Seraph. Even their limited signed-out mode — some versions, 28 Plan days — gives you more translations than we do. If you want Scripture in NIV, ESV, NASB, or any language other than English, Seraph cannot help you.
What Seraph does differently
Restraint as a feature. No account between you and prayer — not a skippable one, not a 28-day unsigned cap; no sign-up screen exists. Two prices, written in plain numbers: $59.99 a year or $6.99 a month. The entire KJV free — not excerpts — bundled offline on iPhone, every chapter, not “select versions.” A streak that forgives a missed day instead of shaming it. No ads on free or paid. Guided prayer paced by breath, which YouVersion is not trying to be. And a privacy stance we've made contractual with our users: no prayer analytics, ever. Compare the plan and features that fit your use, rather than assuming one worldwide price difference.
Three disclosures that belong here. The web subscription and the iPhone subscription are separate purchases and do not unlock each other. The complete offline Bible is the iPhone app; on the web, chapters you have already opened stay readable. And restoring a web subscription in a new browser emails a magic link, so we will not claim “no email ever.” YouVersion’s own listing is candid in the other direction: audio Bibles are not downloadable, and offline text is select versions only.
When each app wins
YouVersion — if you want Scripture, for free, in the translation you already use
Start from their Bible App page or the US listing. Read without paying anyone, including us. Create the free account if you want every version, unlimited plans, prayers, and sync; skip it if some versions and 28 Plan days are enough. Pick an Advent plan in November if that is the season you came for. Do not come here first for a quiet office with no identity at all — they are a Bible app, and they say so.
Seraph — if you want a quiet office with no account and a price you can read before you install
Ours, last on purpose. A flame, the KJV, two free guided sessions, reading plans, no sign-up. Paid for the remaining sessions and Sacred Seasons, free for the office. Small, new, iPhone-and-web only. If none of those sentences is what you came for, YouVersion is the better fit, and we would rather you found it here than felt sold to.
