Seraph vs Our Daily Bread
A short daily devotion and Scripture app from Our Daily Bread Ministries, and a quieter flame that never asks for an account. This page is written by the maker of Seraph — read it knowing that — and it will be generous to Our Daily Bread, because Our Daily Bread has earned a real product of its own.
Our bias, declared: we make Seraph. The linked Our Daily Bread sources support the specific free-download price, missing In-App Purchases list, donor-supported nonprofit copy, store listings, and privacy identified below; this is not an independent review of either app. Our product details describe Seraph’s current published offering. If we've got something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
The main difference
Consider Our Daily Bread if you want a short daily devotion plus plans and audio from Our Daily Bread Ministries (RBC Ministries). The US listing lockup on this check is “Free.” There is no “In‑App Purchases” in that Free line. Seller RBC Ministries, category Reference. JSON-LD Offer on that page is price 0, currency USD. This check found no In-App Purchases list in the Information section. This app’s offer data sets hasInAppPurchases to false. The same listing: a new devotion each morning to read or listen to; a reflection question and a guided prayer; Evening Meditations; streaks and bookmarking; reading reminders; an in-app Bible in NIV, KJV, ESV, and NLT; 20+ languages; a Bible in a Year plan on the homepage; and reading plans, most in 1-day to 10-day formats, including My Utmost for His Highest, Holy Land tours with Jack Beck, and Our Daily Bread Publishing excerpts. The listing calls Our Daily Bread Ministries “a global, donor-supported nonprofit.” This is not YouVersion’s 3,500+ library, not First 5’s Proverbs 31 teaching app, not She Reads Truth, not Lectio 365’s morning/midday/night office, not Abide or Soultime’s guided meditation, not Dwell’s audio Bible, and not Amen. It is a short daily devotion + plans/audio product — not a silent daily office.
Choose Seraph if you want something quieter: one flame kept daily, the whole King James Bible readable free, guided prayer paced by breath — and a hard privacy line: no account to create, no ads, and a public vow of no prayer analytics. Your prayer life stays on your device. Seraph+ is $6.99/mo or $59.99/yr on our US App Store listing and on our pricing page. The daily office is free. Sacred Seasons, including Advent, are not. There is no Seraph+ trial.
Side by side
| Feature | Seraph | Our Daily Bread |
|---|---|---|
| Annual price | $59.99/yr | No paid plan on the stores cited here. The US App Store listing (id437496538) is priced free and has no In-App Purchases list — we re-read the listing on September 10, 2026. Lockup: “Free.” JSON-LD Offer is price 0, currency USD. This app’s offer data sets hasInAppPurchases to false. Information on that page lists Seller, Size, Category, Compatibility, Languages, Age Rating, and Copyright — no In-App Purchases row. The Google Play listing JSON-LD Offer is also price 0, currency USD, with no “In-app purchases” string on this check. |
| Monthly price | $6.99/mo | None published as an IAP. We do not invent a subscription. A donation page exists. That page calls Our Daily Bread Ministries “a donor-supported, global organization.” That is a gift path, not a paywall SKU. We do not invent a monthly app amount from that page. |
| Family plan | — | No paid family SKU on the stores cited here. We do not invent a family plan price. |
| Free trial | None — the free tier is the trial. There is no Seraph+ trial. | Not applicable. There is no paid library to trial on the pages cited here. |
| Free, forever | Daily verse · 2 guided sessions · the whole KJV Bible (1,189 chapters) · every reading plan · streak flame · reminders | The download they price at 0, plus the daily devotion, audio, plans, and in-app Bible the US listing names. We print that listing. We do not invent a Seraph-style forever-free office inside Our Daily Bread. The web devotion at odb.org is their ministry site, not this app’s IAP table. |
| Subscription opens | Full guided-prayer library (12 sessions) · Sacred Seasons (Advent & Lent) | Nothing as an IAP. No paid tier exists on the store listings cited here. We do not invent a Seraph-style paywall inside Our Daily Bread. |
| Account required | No — no sign-up exists | Not named as required to download. Their privacy policy (modified Aug 2, 2021): you can use their websites as an unregistered user or a registered user; creating a journal entry or commenting on the websites requires an account (name, email, and country). For mobile apps: “Full access to all the features within the applications (including commenting, journaling, and bookmarks), will require the creation of an account.” We do not invent a skippable no-account path for those features they gated. |
| Community | None as a listed product. A quiet office, not a group study. | Not named as a group-study product on the US listing. Their privacy policy still names commenting, journaling, and bookmarks as account-gated app features, and website comments as public. That is a devotion publisher with optional comments, not a silent flame. |
| Prayer analytics | None — a public vow. Prayer data never leaves your device | They collect. Apple’s App Privacy label on the US listing (self-reported, not verified by Apple): Data Not Linked to You — Location, Contact Info, Identifiers, Usage Data, Diagnostics. Parsed from the live HTML: Analytics (Location — Coarse Location; Identifiers — Device ID; Usage Data — Product Interaction; Diagnostics — Crash Data, Performance Data, Other Diagnostic Data); App Functionality (Contact Info — Email Address, Name; Identifiers — User ID). This check found no Data Used to Track You bucket and no Data Linked to You bucket. Their Play Data safety section: “No data shared with third parties”; “This app may collect these data types — Personal info, App activity, and Device or other IDs”; “Data is encrypted in transit”; “You can request that data be deleted.” Their privacy policy still describes account data (name, email, country), IP address, donations, cookies, Google Analytics, and transfer to the United States. We print the label and the policy. We do not treat Data Not Linked to You as a rewrite of that policy, and we do not invent a “Data Used to Track You” bucket Apple did not show. |
| Bible | Full KJV bundled; offline on iPhone | A devotion app with a Bible feature, not one translation only. The US listing: bounce between the devotion and an in-app Bible; NIV, KJV, ESV, and NLT; Scripture in 20+ languages. We print those four translations. We do not invent a full-Bible reading office as the product. |
| Platforms | iPhone and web | The US listing Information section names iPhone (iOS 15.1 or later), iPad (iPadOS 15.1 or later), and iPod touch (iOS 15.1 or later). JSON-LD operatingSystem on that page is “Requires iOS 15.1 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.” This check found no Mac or Apple Vision row in Information. The Google Play listing is Android, package org.rbc.odb, JSON-LD author Our Daily Bread Ministries. Daily devotion also lives on the web at odb.org. That is a devotion ministry site, not a silent no-account office. |
| Tradition | Broadly Christian, KJV | Our Daily Bread Ministries’ daily devotion app. The US listing developer and seller is RBC Ministries, copyright © 2024 Our Daily Bread Ministries, category Reference, subtitle “Daily Devotional and Scripture.” The listing’s devotion copy names “a global, donor-supported nonprofit with a more than 85-year history.” Their donation page also writes “RBC Ministries DBA Our Daily Bread Ministries.” We print that. We do not restate ranking or rating marketing as product fact. |
| If you cannot pay | No scholarship or sponsorship path published. Advent and most guided sessions require Seraph+. | Download the app they already price at 0. Give through secure.ourdailybread.org/donation/ if the work is worth supporting. That is optional support, not a hardship grant and not an IAP. No scholarship path for the app is named on the pages cited here. |
Our Daily Bread’s US listing is a free download with no In-App Purchases list on this check. Their donation page is a gift door, not a plan price. No worldwide cheapest-price claim is made here — they do not sell a plan on the stores cited here.
What Our Daily Bread does better
A short morning devotion, with audio, plans, and languages we do not ship. If “today’s Our Daily Bread devotion, Evening Meditations, a Bible in a Year plan, NIV / KJV / ESV / NLT in the app, 20+ languages, and no IAP table” is the requirement, they meet it. Their listing Offer is price 0 for the download; this check found no IAP list to sit behind. They ship Android. We do not. The listing’s nonprofit line is first-party: a global, donor-supported nonprofit. If you want Our Daily Bread Ministries’ daily devotion — not YouVersion’s library, not First 5, not She Reads Truth, not Lectio 365, not a silent office — Our Daily Bread is the honest recommendation, and we are not in that contest.
They also publish the devotion on the web at odb.org. That is still their ministry site, not a no-account office.
What Seraph does differently
Restraint as a feature, and a Bible you can finish. No account between you and prayer — Our Daily Bread’s privacy policy still wants an account for commenting, journaling, and bookmarks. Prayer data never leaves the device; their US listing reports Data Not Linked to You collection, and their Play listing reports collection. Two prices, written in plain numbers: $59.99 a year or $6.99 a month, auto-renew, cancel anytime. The entire KJV free — not a devotion with four named translations on tap — bundled offline on iPhone, every chapter. A public web office you can open without installing an app. A streak that forgives a missed day instead of shaming it. No ads on free or paid. Guided prayer paced by breath. Compare the plan and features that fit your use, rather than assuming one worldwide price difference.
Three disclosures that belong here. The web subscription and the iPhone subscription are separate purchases and do not unlock each other. The complete offline Bible is the iPhone app; on the web, chapters you have already opened stay readable. And restoring a web subscription in a new browser emails a magic link, so we will not claim “no email ever.” There is no Seraph+ trial: you never try a paid session before buying it. The daily office is the trial of Seraph, not of the paid library.
When each app wins
Our Daily Bread — if you want the short daily devotion, with plans and audio
Start from the US listing, odb.org, or the Play listing. Read or listen to the morning devotion. Use Evening Meditations, Bible in a Year, and the 1-day to 10-day plans if that is the shape of the day. Give through secure.ourdailybread.org/donation/ if the work is worth supporting. Use Android if that is your phone. Do not come here first for a silent one-flame office with no account, a full King James you can finish as a plan, or a public vow that prayer never leaves the device. They are Our Daily Bread Ministries’ daily devotion app, and the listings say so.
Seraph — if you want a quiet office with no account, a full KJV, and a price you can read before you install
Ours, last on purpose. A flame, the KJV, two free guided sessions, reading plans, no sign-up. Paid for the remaining sessions and Sacred Seasons, free for the office. Small, new, iPhone-and-web only. If none of those sentences is what you came for, Our Daily Bread is the better fit, and we would rather you found it here than felt sold to.
